TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko expressed optimism that Indonesia's economy will continue to grow, having witnessed the rapid progress achieved since his first visit in 2013.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the President of Indonesia for the invitation to visit this beautiful country. I recall my first visit in 2013 and seeing for myself how rapidly this beautiful country is developing. I am confident that its economy will continue to grow," Lukashenko said in a joint statement with President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.
Lukashenko said the visit to Indonesia had been planned for about a year as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
According to him, meetings with President Prabowo, ministers, delegates, and business leaders resulted in several agreements that he hopes will be realized soon.
"We in Belarus are very happy. What we have planned must now be realized," he said.
During the meeting, the two countries also launched the Indonesia-Belarus 2026–2030 Roadmap for Strengthening Cooperation as the framework to forging bilateral relations in various strategic sectors.
Meanwhile, President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Lukashenko's second visit to Indonesia, believing that the meeting reflected how the relations between both countries have strengthened.
Prabowo also announced that he would reciprocate by visiting Belarus as part of the efforts to strengthen communication and cooperation at the level of heads of state.
Data from the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) shows that Indonesia's economic growth in the first quarter of 2026 reached 5.61 percent (year-on-year/yoy). This figure represents growth compared to the first quarter of 2025 and is the fastest growth rate in more than three years.
Furthermore, on a quarterly basis (quarter-to-quarter/qoq), the economy contracted by 0.77 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2025. This pattern is typical due to seasonal factors following high economic activity at the end of the year.
According to BPS, the 5.61 percent growth was primarily driven by household consumption, increased government spending, investment (Gross Fixed Capital Formation), and the accommodation and food and beverage sectors, which recorded the highest growth.
