TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has ordered all ministries to seek presidential approval before issuing any technical regulations.
He delivered the directive during a meeting with businesspeople and investors at an economic forum held at Menara Mandiri, Jakarta, on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
Prabowo emphasized his commitment to simplifying and streamlining the licensing process within his administration.
However, he expressed frustration over the continued issuance of technical regulations by bureaucrats, even after presidential decisions had been made.
"No more, no more technical regulations. All technical regulations issued by ministries must have the approval of the President of the Republic of Indonesia," said Prabowo.
The president underscored the need for his cabinet to work efficiently and eliminate unnecessary regulations. He called for the entire licensing process for business to be made simpler and more accessible.
"Now, I emphasize to the cabinet: first, efficiency, work must be efficient. Second, discard all unreasonable regulations. Streamline. Simplify all processes for entrepreneurs," Prabowo stated.
He also urged his subordinates to reflect on existing policies, particularly those related to imports. He stressed the importance of eliminating practices that harm the nation’s economy and workforce.
"Yes, we must introspect ourselves. Our institutions must be in order. Customs. They must be in order, no more tricks. Creating arbitrary procedures, prolonging them like that. Smuggling must be stopped. It threatens our industries. It threatens our people. It threatens the jobs of our people," Prabowo warned.
During a Q&A session, Prabowo expressed his gratitude to the economists and entrepreneurs in attendance for their input. He also urged them to report any irregularities in the implementation of policies on the ground.
