TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s senior national team coach Patrick Kluivert on Tuesday, April 8, praised U-17 coach Nova Arianto for guiding the Young Garudas to the 2025 U-17 World Cup. In an Instagram Story tagging Nova (@novarianto30) and the national team (@timnasindonesia), the former Ajax striker wrote, “Great achievement. This is just the beginning.”
The Indonesia U-17 team clinched a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2025 AFC U-17 Asian Cup as Group C winners after two victories: a 1–0 win over South Korea last Friday and a convincing 4–1 triumph against Yemen on Monday night, April 7. Their World Cup qualification was confirmed after South Korea thrashed Afghanistan 6–0, cementing Indonesia’s position at the top of the group, with South Korea finishing second.
Kluivert wasn’t the only one celebrating the milestone. Several senior players joined in on social media to congratulate and commend their juniors. Captain Jay Idzes shared the final score of Indonesia’s 4–1 win over Yemen, accompanied by a clapping emoji. Defender Kevin Diks, who plays for FC Copenhagen, applauded the performance of Evandra Florasta, who scored twice in the team’s second match. Striker Ole Romeny, currently with Oxford United in England’s second tier, posted a photo of the standout forward, writing, “The future is here. Congrats, friends!”
Meanwhile, defender Rizky Ridho shared his excitement after watching the U-17 side’s win over Yemen live at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The Persija Jakarta captain also snapped a photo with Nova Arianto and U-17 captain Putu Panji, posting, “Congrats, Coach Nova Arianto. Congrats, Capt Putu Panji.”
The Young Garudas still have one group-stage match remaining in the 2025 AFC U-17 Asian Cup. They will face Afghanistan at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah on Thursday, April 10 at 20:15 local time, or Friday at 00:15 West Indonesia Time. Afghanistan has already been eliminated following two consecutive defeats: 0–2 against Yemen and 0–6 against South Korea.
With a quarterfinal berth already secured, Coach Nova Arianto hinted at squad rotation for the final group match, aiming to give minutes to players who haven’t yet featured in the tournament. “We’ll definitely test out players who haven’t played yet. Let’s give them a chance and see what tactical moves we can pull off,” said Nova.
