TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) confirmed that all drought-hit areas across Java are receiving daily supplies of clean water.

The Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, stated in Jakarta on Friday that the clean water distribution is intended to fulfill the residents' essential needs during the dry season.

The water supplies are distributed periodically by the agency's respective regional teams, including by the rapid response team in Yogyakarta, Central Java, and East Java.

In Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta, the joint team has so far distributed 16 clean water tanker fleets to 67 affected families in Semugih Village, Rongkop District.

To strengthen the region's water crisis management, the Gunungkidul Regency Government has also issued Regent Decree No. 154/KPTS/2026 declaring the drought emergency alert status from June 1 to August 31, 2026.

Emergency clean water logistics also target Central Java, specifically 1,224 individuals across 586 households affected by drought in Plumutan and Bantal Villages, Bancak District, Semarang Regency.

In response to the drought situation, Semarang  Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) personnel have delivered clean water tanks with capacities of 5,000 liters each to Krajan and Mungkruk Hamlets.

In East Java, intensive drought management is reportedly underway in Jember Regency after 125 households in Bunder Hamlet, Sumberpinang Village, Pakusari District, have struggled to access clean water since Wednesday, July 1.

He explained that the water crisis in Jember is triggered by the dwindling water supply from residents' wells and the suboptimal operation of nearby boreholes due to the lack of pipe networks and electricity meter installations leading to the local settlements.

In response to these infrastructure challenges, the Jember Disaster Management Agency and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) distributed emergency aid in the form of dozens of jerry cans, water tanks, and a supply of 9,000 liters of clean water to local residents.
