Prabowo Joins Indonesian Diaspora for Eid al-Adha Prayers in Paris

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto performed Eid al-Adha prayers with members of the Indonesian diaspora at Wisma Indonesia in Paris, France, on Wednesday during his state visit to the country.

Indonesian citizens and members of the diaspora attended the congregational prayer, which was held at the Indonesian Embassy compound in Paris as Muslims around the world marked Eid al-Adha.

According to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat’s Press, Media, and Information Bureau (BPMI), President Prabowo arrived at the prayer venue at around 08:40 AM local time, accompanied by chants of takbir.

He then joined the congregation in the prayer rows and recited the takbir together with worshippers before the Eid prayer began.

Previously, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya had announced that President Prabowo was scheduled to perform Eid al-Adha prayers at the Indonesian Embassy compound in Paris during his visit to France.

The Eid prayer was led by Fakhruddin Arrozi, a graduate of the International Islamic University Islamabad in Pakistan, who currently serves as a lecturer at Muhammadiyah University of Lamongan.

In his sermon, Fakhruddin emphasized that Eid al-Adha carries not only spiritual significance, but also humanitarian values.

He said the ritual of qurban, or animal sacrifice, serves as a reminder for Muslims to share with others, preserve their Islamic identity, strengthen family ties, and reinforce unity, especially for Muslim communities living abroad as part of the diaspora.

“We are not commanded to sacrifice our children as Prophet Ibrahim once faced, but we are commanded to sacrifice our ego in obedience to Allah,” Fakhruddin said during the sermon.

After performing the Eid prayer, President Prabowo spent time greeting members of the congregation. He was seen shaking hands and speaking with Indonesian citizens who attended the event.

The gathering continued with a friendly reception and shared meal between the President and members of the Indonesian community in Paris as part of the Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah celebrations.
