TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Malaysian government has pledged US$1 million aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which handles assistance for Palestinian refugees over the next five years.
Malaysia made this commitment at the UNRWA Pledging Conference held in New York on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated this in a release in Kuala Lumpur, as reported by Antara on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
The UNRWA Pledging Conference is an official annual meeting or special conference organized by the United Nations General Assembly for member countries to announce and commit voluntary contributions or funding.
Its goal is to ensure sufficient and predictable financial support so that the agency can continue to provide humanitarian aid, education, and health services to Palestinian refugees.
Malaysia's contribution of US$1 million will be disbursed annually at a rate of US$200,000 over the period from 2026 to 2030.
"Malaysia will continue to support UNRWA so that it is able to fulfill its mandate to the Palestinian people," the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
