TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - King Abdullah II of Jordan emphasized that the Israeli attacks on Gaza must be stopped immediately. He made the statement during a summit with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron in Cairo, Egypt, on Monday, April 7, 2025.
As reported by Arab News, the leaders urged the international community to advocate efforts to halt the war in Gaza. They also called for the restoration of the ceasefire deal and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the coastal enclave of Palestine.
According to the Petra news agency, King Abdullah stated that the Israeli strikes on Gaza undermined all diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to resolve the crisis and risked dragging the entire Middle East into chaos. He emphasized the need for a political solution based on a two-state solution, ensuring security and stability for Palestine and Israel.
King Abdullah also stressed that Jordan opposes the displacement of Palestinian residents in Gaza and the West Bank. He also condemned Israel's unilateral actions and attacks on Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
The Jordanian delegation present included Foreign Minister and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi, Royal Court Chief Alaa Batayneh, and Ambassador to Cairo Amjad Al-Adaileh.
King Abdullah and El-Sisi welcomed France's support in resolving the Palestinian issue. They highlighted the need for international cooperation, particularly from European Union countries, including France, to assist in the reconstruction of Gaza.
After arriving in Cairo on Sunday, April 6, Macron was scheduled to travel to Al-Arish, 50 kilometers from the Gaza Strip, on Tuesday, April 8, to meet with humanitarian and security authorities, and to promote a ceasefire.
On Monday, Macron expressed strong opposition to the transfer or annexation of any kind in Israeli-occupied Gaza and the West Bank.
King Abdullah, El-Sisi, and Macron emphasized the need for a political solution to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, aiming for everlasting peace.
