TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Hajj Fund Management Agency (BPKH) has allocated 152.49 million Saudi riyals (SAR) in cash for the living expenses of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in the Hajj season 1447 H/2026 M. The fund will be distributed to 203,320 regular hajj pilgrims through Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI).
BPKH Executive Board member Amri Yusuf stated that the provision of foreign currency is in accordance with Law Number 34 of 2014 regarding the Management of Hajj Funds. "Every pilgrim will receive a living cost allowance of SAR 750. The allowance will be distributed in denominations of SAR 500, two pieces of SAR 100, and one piece of SAR 50," said Amri in a written statement received by Tempo on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
Amri explained that the money is intended to support daily needs during the pilgrimage, including additional consumption, emergency funds, and the payment of dam or hajj fines. He emphasized that the mechanism used still adheres to Shari'a principles, one of which is the application of sharf contracts, or cash currency exchange transactions.
In this scheme, the principal value of currency exchange is separated from distribution costs. The principal value is transferred directly. Distribution costs are only paid once service providers have fulfilled their obligations. "This is to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of hajj funds," he said.
In addition to providing living allowances, BPKH continues to strive for cost efficiency in organizing the hajj pilgrimage. In 2026, the total Cost of Implementing the Hajj Rituals (BPIH) is around Rp87 million per pilgrim.
However, pilgrims are only charged around Rp54 million for the Hajj travel cost (Bipih). The Rp33.2 million difference is covered by the benefits of BPKH's management of hajj funds. "Optimal investment strategies and fund management are the key to maintaining the affordability of the pilgrimage costs amid global economic pressures," he said.
He also ensured that potential cost increases due to global dynamics would not be directly passed on to the pilgrims. In accordance with the president's directive, the government is considering using the state budget (APBN) to cover any additional costs.
BPKH ensures the financial readiness of Indonesian hajj pilgrims by distributing funds in the form of banknotes. This policy is part of the government's efforts to provide convenience and protection for the pilgrims during their pilgrimage in the Holy Land.
