TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The latest tourism promotion held by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) in two key Chinese cities at the end of May generated potential transactions of approximately Rp109 billion, the ministry stated, adding that the government is targeting a 28 percent increase in Chinese tourist arrivals this year.

The program introduced several leading Indonesian destinations, such as Bali, Lombok, Surabaya, and Jakarta. It also promoted a variety of special interest tourism products, including wellness tourism, marine tourism, cultural tourism, and nature-based tourism.

Recent sales missions to promote Indonesian tourism were held in Shanghai on May 22 and Guangzhou on May 25, involving 14 domestic tourism industry players, including travel agents, accommodation providers, and tourist attraction operators.

"This Sales Mission activity is one of the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism's efforts to expand Indonesia's tourism business network with industry partners in China through business-to-business (B2B) meetings that bring together industry players from both countries," said Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, in an official statement on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

The Sales Mission event in the two cities successfully attracted 12,336 potential visitors, with a transaction value of approximately Rp109 billion and potential foreign exchange earnings of Rp265 billion.

The Ministry of Tourism stated that China remains one of Indonesia's priority markets with significant tourist potential. The government is targeting a 28 percent increase in total Chinese tourist visits to reach 1.72 million this year. Throughout the first quarter (Q1) alone, total Chinese tourist visits reached 357,700, a 25 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The Ministry of Tourism stated that this increase was also supported by increasingly strong air connectivity between the two countries. The locations for this tourism promotion, namely Shanghai and Guangzhou, are two important cities that serve as the main departure points for Chinese tourists to various destinations in Indonesia.
