TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Yemen's Houthis, who control the north of the country and are allied with Iran, have vowed to retaliate against Saudi Arabian airstrikes in the Red Sea province of Hodeidah.
As ANTARA reported, a source in the local authorities told RIA Novosti earlier this week that Saudi warplanes had carried out at least five attacks on various locations in Hodeidah, western Yemen.
The Ansar Allah movement's political bureau said the recent crimes would not go unpunished, stressing that its commitment to deterrence remained "clear and unwavering." In a statement carried by Al Masirah TV, the group said the principle of deterrence established by its people, leaders, and armed forces would continue to guide its response.
The Houthi group accused Saudi Arabia of attacking civilian targets in Hodeidah and Kamaran Island, including Hodeidah port, and vowed to attack Saudi ports in retaliation.
The Houthi leader described the attacks on civilian infrastructure as a dangerous escalation, warning that continued aggression would only result in greater losses for those carrying out the attacks. He said the strikes risked further intensifying the conflict rather than achieving their intended objectives.
Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition confirmed it had carried out strikes on military targets in Hodeidah in response to attacks on tankers in the Red Sea. However, it denied allegations it had targeted Hodeidah port.
