TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Eight people died in the crash of the PK-CFX helicopter operated by PT Matthew Air Nusantara in Sekadau Regency, West Kalimantan, on Thursday, April 16, 2026. One of them was a Malaysian citizen.
"We extend our deepest condolences to all the families of the victims," said Lukman F. Laisa, the Director General of Air Transportation of the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, in a written statement quoted on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
He explained that the helicopter was piloted by one pilot, Captain Marindra Wibowo, and carried a technician, Harun Arasyid. There were six passengers on board, namely Patrick K (Malaysian national), Victor T, Charles L, Joko C, Fauzie O, and Sugito.
The Airbus Helicopter EC 130 T2 was scheduled to fly from the PT Cipta Mahkota helipad to the PT Graha Agro Nusantara 1 helipad in the Sanggau Regency, West Kalimantan.
Lukman stated that, based on the information received, the aircraft took off at 07.37 Western Indonesian Time (WIB). At 08.39 WIB, the helicopter was detected sending a distress signal in the West Kalimantan forest area. At 09.15, the aircraft was declared missing. At 10.43 WIB, AirNav Indonesia issued an emergency notification (DETRESFA) in accordance with applicable procedures.
A joint search and rescue (SAR) team has found the helicopter crash site. "Based on information in the field, all passengers and crew members were declared deceased," said Lukman.
