TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Colombia vs. Portugal match will take place in the decisive match for Group K 2026 World Cup at Miami Stadium on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 06:30 a.m. Jakarta time, broadcast on TVRI. Both teams have secured their places in the round of 32, but the position of group champion remains at stake.

Colombia leads the Group K standings with six points from two matches. The team led by Nestor Lorenzo opened the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan, before defeating the Democratic Republic of Congo 1-0 in the second match.

These results secured Colombia's place in the knockout stage. They only need a draw against Portugal to secure the top position in the standings. If they finish as group champions, Colombia will face one of the third-place teams from Group D, E, I, J, or L in the round of 32.

On the other hand, if they lose to Portugal, Colombia will drop to second place and face the runner-up of Group L.

Colombia is seen as one of the dark horse teams in the 2026 World Cup. Their best performance in football's grandest tournament was in 2014 when they reached the quarter-finals.

Portugal comes with a strong 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan. Team captain Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals in that match, easing the criticism that arose after his unsatisfactory performance in a goalless draw against the Democratic Republic of Congo. As quoted from Sportsmole, those two goals increased Ronaldo's career goal tally to 975.

Portugal is currently in second place in Group K with four points. The team led by Roberto Martínez must secure a victory if they want to surpass Colombia and finish the group stage as champions. A draw is enough for Portugal to qualify as a runner-up.

Even if they lose, they still have a chance to finish in second place if the Democratic Republic of Congo fails to defeat Uzbekistan in another match. Portugal's chance to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams remains present, but it's slim, considering their current position.

Current Condition of Both Teams

Colombia is still monitoring the condition of striker Luis Suarez, who suffered a shoulder injury while facing the DR Congo. However, Sporting Lisbon's striker is expected to still be able to play as the spearhead.

Luis Diaz and James Rodriguez are expected to be the mainstays in the attacking line, while Jefferson Lerma is expected to maintain his position in the midfield. Lorenzo also has the opportunity to maintain the same lineup as when they defeated the Democratic Republic of Congo, including Davinson Snchez in the heart of defense.

In the Portuguese camp, defender Tomas Araujo is still doubtful to play after suffering an injury in the opening match against the DR Congo. Furthermore, Roberto Martinez does not have any significant obstacles.

Cristiano Ronaldo is predicted to return to the starting lineup after scoring two goals against Uzbekistan. Bernardo Silva and Rafael Leao are competing for a place in the starting team, but Joao Felix is expected to maintain his position in the frontline.

Head-to-Head Record

  • This match will be the first official meeting between Colombia and Portugal in international matches.
  • As quoted from Sportskeeda, Portugal comes with an undefeated record across seven matches since losing 0-2 to the Republic of Ireland in the World Cup qualifying match in November 2025.
  • Colombia itself qualified for the final round after finishing third in the CONMEBOL zone or Latin America qualifying standings. This position automatically gave them a spot as one of the top six teams.

Predicted Lineups

Colombia: Camilo Vargas; Daniel Munoz, Davinson Sanchez, John Lucumi, Johan Mojica; Gustavo Puerta, Jhon Arias, Jefferson Lerma; James Rodriguez, Luis Suarez, Luis Diaz.

Portugal: Diogo Costa; Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, Renato Veiga, Nuno Mendes; Vitinha, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Neves; Pedro Neto, Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Felix.

Prediction

This match is expected to be intense as Portugal has to face Colombia, who have been solid throughout the group stage. A draw is considered the most likely result, so Portugal is predicted to have to settle for the runner-up position in the Group K standings.
