TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Pegadaian estimates a significant increase in the number of transactions in its Gold Savings product by the end of April 2025. The state-owned company engaged in financial services noted a sharp growth trend in digital gold transactions during the current month.
The President Director of PT Pegadaian, Damar Latri Setiawan, explained that Gold Savings transactions showed a remarkable increase compared to previous months. According to him, compared to the previous daily transaction average of around Rp 380 billion, the current value has reached approximately Rp 1.5 trillion.
"During April 2025, Pegadaian's Gold Savings transactions have increased up to 4 times. The average transaction of Rp 380 billion has now become Rp 1.5 trillion. We are also optimistic that by the end of April, this transaction will increase to 10 times," said Damar in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday, April 19, 2025.
In addition to the increase in digital-based Gold Savings transactions, there has also been an increase in demand for physical gold. Sales are conducted through the Galeri 24 store network, a Pegadaian subsidiary focusing on the production and distribution of gold bars and gold jewelry.
Damar stated that the increasing demand trend is not limited to specific areas but is also happening uniformly across various Galeri 24 branches throughout Indonesia. This indicates consistent interest from the public in gold-based investment products, both in digital and physical forms.
During the period of April 8 to 13, 2025, Galeri 24 recorded sales of more than 250 kilograms of gold bars and more than 6 kilograms of gold jewelry. These figures reflect the increasing public demand for precious metal-based investment products.
According to Damar, changes in consumer behavior in choosing investment instruments are also influenced by the current instability in the global economy. He mentioned that factors such as geopolitical tension and commodity price fluctuations are among the reasons for the increasing public interest in gold as a form of asset value protection.
"Gold is often referred to as a safe haven investment because it is a relatively stable investment instrument even in turbulent market conditions. In addition to its high liquidity, gold is also resistant to inflation in order to preserve asset value," he said.
Damar also stated that gold is currently considered one of the safest investment instruments in the midst of global uncertainty, especially with the projected increase in gold prices in the near future. He also emphasized that the public need not worry about the security of digital transactions at Pegadaian because it is supported by an adequate supply of physical gold.
"Pegadaian implements a 1:1 system for gold transaction services, where when there is a demand for gold installment transactions or Gold Savings by customers, Pegadaian has prepared a physical gold supply in the amount of grams being transacted," said Damar.
