TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded that 19,297 houses have been damaged by the recent 7.7-magnitude earthquake, as of 9:00 a.m. local time on Tuesday, August 18.
The Head of NTT BPBD, Mahadin Sibarani, said in a report received by ANTARA in Kupang on Tuesday that the damaged houses were spread across eight regencies: Manggarai, West Manggarai, East Manggarai, Ende, Sikka, Ngada, Nagekeo, and East Sumba.
"This is preliminary data and is subject to change based on field verification," said Mahadin.
Based on the level of damage, the agency recorded 6,463 houses with severe damage, 2,481 houses with moderate damage, and 12,006 houses with minor damage.
East Manggarai was the hardest hit, with 7,480 units, but the level of severity in the damage had yet been separately listed.
West Manggarai recorded 3,493 damaged houses, consisting of 1,410 severely damaged, 635 moderately damaged, and 1,448 lightly damaged.
In Manggarai, 1,983 houses were affected, with 1,597 severely damaged, 263 moderately damaged, and 123 lightly damaged.
Nagekeo recorded 2,862 houses damaged, consisting of 1,373 severely damaged, 260 moderately damaged, and 1,229 lightly damaged. Ngada recorded 2,296 affected houses, with 698 severely damaged, 465 moderately damaged, and 1,133 lightly damaged.
Meanwhile, in Ende, 951 houses were damaged, consisting of 285 severely damaged, 149 moderately damaged, and 537 lightly damaged. In Sikka, 227 houses were affected, with 158 severely damaged, 18 moderately damaged, and 51 lightly damaged.
In East Sumba, five houses were damaged, all categorized as lightly damaged.
Mahadin stated that data collection on house damage is a crucial part of post-disaster management, particularly in determining aid allocation, repairing residents' homes, and restoring public service facilities.
The NTT BPBD and the district government continue to update data to ensure targeted assistance to affected communities.
"The most important thing is to ensure that the needs of affected communities are properly recorded so that the handling and recovery process can be carried out appropriately," said Mahadin.
