TEMPO.CO, Jakarta For the first time in a decade, the Irish government has rejected more visa applications from Palestinians than it has approved.

According to a report by the newspaper The Ditch, the rejection rate exceeded 50 percent.

Data from the Irish government shows that 63 percent of Palestinians applying for short-term visas to stay in Ireland were rejected, according to the report, as quoted by ANTARA.

The media report also notes that the visa rejection rate for Palestinian applicants has quadrupled since 2023.

Meanwhile, more than half of Palestinians applying for long-term visas are now being rejected, compared to just nine percent last year.

The report, citing Ireland's largest student newspaper, The University Times, also highlights a sharp increase in the number of Palestinians denied student visas for Ireland.

The report also reiterates that Israeli tourists can still travel to Ireland without a visa.
