TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The investigators from the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Indonesian National Police revealed the circulation of narcotics type Delta 9 Tetrahydrocannabiol (THC). The narcotic, which resembles candy, was detected as being sent from the United Kingdom.
Citing the National Center for Biotechnology Information website, Tetrahydrocannabiol (THC) is a compound contained in marijuana plants.
The Director of the Narcotics Criminal Act Directorate of the Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Agency, Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, stated that a suspect with the initials AJE was apprehended while collecting a package containing narcotics at a post office in Malang, East Java. "The suspect ordered the candy through a website," Eko said in a written statement on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Eko stated that AJE is suspected to have placed orders for narcotics four times. The first was on March 4, 2026, for 10 candies, on March 31, 2026, for 30 pieces of chocolate containing THC narcotics, on May 21, 2026, for narcotics in liquid form, and lastly on August 19, 2026.
The Head of Sub-Directorate III of the Narcotics Criminal Act Directorate, Chief Commissioner Zulkarnain Harahap, stated that these THC candies represent a new form of narcotics circulation detected in Indonesia. "This is the first time we've found and uncovered this in the Indonesian territory," Zulkarnain said.
Based on the suspect's statement, all the packages were for personal consumption. The latest order, weighing 231 grams, was then confiscated for investigative purposes. The suspect is charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics and/or Article 609 paragraph (2) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustments.
