TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has outlined the connection of Regional Representative Council member La Nyalla Mattalitti in the alleged corruption case involving grant funds in the regional budget of the East Java Provincial Government for the period 2019-2022.

KPK's Director of Investigation Asep Guntur Rahayu mentioned that La Nyalla is suspected to have been involved in the case during his tenure as the Vice Chair of the East Java branch of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI).

At that time, La Nyalla served as the Vice Chairman of KONI East Java from 2010 to 2019. "It is related to when he served as the Vice Chair of KONI East Java," said Asep when contacted by Tempo through a messaging application on Sunday, April 20, 2025.

However, he declined to explain in more detail the nature of La Nyalla's connection to the corruption case involving grant funds in East Java. Asep only confirmed that the Regional Representative Council member from East Java is linked to this issue. "It is certain that there is a connection during his tenure at KONI East Java," he said.

Meanwhile, KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardika Sugiarto stated that La Nyalla's connection to this case is under investigation. However, she was not willing to elaborate on La Nyalla's involvement in the corruption case regarding the grant funds in East Java.

"So, if asked about the nature of the connection, this is certainly part of the investigation. Because the process is still ongoing. Certainly, there are things that the investigators cannot disclose at this time," Tessa said at the Red and White Building KPK on Thursday, April 17, 2025.

She mentioned that further confirmation will be obtained from the investigators regarding the witnesses that KPK will summon in this case. This includes, according to Tessa, the details about the search locations and the evidence related to the corruption case involving grant funds in East Java.

"It will be clarified regarding the evidence or any indications held by the investigators. So, I still cannot provide the details at this time," she said.

Prior to this, KPK investigators conducted a search at La Nyalla's residence in Mulyorejo, Surabaya on Monday, April 14, 2025. The search was conducted as part of efforts to find additional evidence related to the corruption case involving grant funds of the East Java Provincial Government that implicated Kusnadi, the former Chairman of the East Java Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD). During the search process, five KPK investigators were received by the housekeeper, M. Eriyanto, and witnessed by two domestic assistants.

In response to the search at his residence, La Nyalla Mattalitti affirmed that he had no connection whatsoever with Kusnadi. He also claimed not to be familiar with the grant recipients mentioned in relation to Kusnadi.

"I myself am not a grant recipient or part of any community group. Because of this, ultimately it was clearly stated in the search report that no items/money/documents related to the investigation were found," La Nyalla said in a statement received by Tempo.

La Nyalla Mattalitti mentioned that he is still awaiting an explanation from KPK regarding the reason for his residence being chosen as the search location. The former Chairman of the Regional Representative Council of Indonesia (DPD RI) hopes that KPK will provide clarification to the public that there were no findings at his residence related to the case involving the suspect Kusnadi.

According to him, the explanation from KPK is crucial to prevent the reputational damage he has experienced due to the news of the search. "I have read the search report sent via WhatsApp by the housekeeper, stating clearly that 'from the search, no money/items/documents related to the case were found.' So, it's over," he said.
