TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government invites the public attending the peak night of Jakarta's 499th anniversary to participate in a waste sorting movement. The invitation was communicated through the official Instagram account @dkijakarta, where citizens can take part in the #JagaJakarta (Protect Jakarta) challenge by sorting their waste during the event at HI Roundabout on Saturday, June 27, 2026.

As a form of appreciation, the committee will provide prizes in the form of free tickets to Ancol, Dufan, and Atlantis for participants who complete the challenge.

This program is part of a large-scale movement by the Jakarta provincial government to change how citizens manage waste. It is in line with Governor's Instruction Number 5 of 2026, which requires citizens to sort waste at its source. This movement is crucial considering the waste emergency in Jakarta. The Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Site (TPST) is already more than 86.4 percent full.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung aims to resolve the waste issue before Jakarta's 500th anniversary in 2027. The Bantargebang TPST is nearly full, with a pile reaching 60 meters. Starting August 1, 2026, it will only accept residual waste. The instruction regulates waste sorting obligations and provides incentives to form facilities and infrastructure for neighborhood units (RW) that successfully sort 100 percent of their waste.

To ensure the program's success, the Jakarta provincial government is committed to providing supporting facilities, such as bins for organic and inorganic waste, in various locations. Members of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) also emphasize the importance of executing the three main pillars: socialization, facilities and infrastructure, and incentives. The provincial government hopes that, with the challenge and attractive prizes, citizens will celebrate Jakarta's anniversary and contribute to preserving the city's environment.
