TEMPO.CO, Bandung - Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has once again erupted today, Friday, August 1, 2025, spewing volcanic ash 10 kilometers high into the sky.
Emanuel Rofinus Bere, one of the officers monitoring the volcanic activity of Mount Lewotobi, mentioned that the eruption that occurred at 8:48 p.m. local time produced ejected ashes west- and northwestward. The eruption, which lasted about 3 minutes and 40 seconds, had a maximum amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a temporary duration of about 3 minutes and 40 seconds.
"Loud rumbles accompanied the eruption and were still ongoing as the report was being drafted," Emanuel said shortly after the incident.
Mount Lewotobi, 1,584 meters above sea level, remains at alert Level IV status. Officers urge local residents and visitors to avoid entering a 6-kilometer radius within the crater, as well as the Southwest-Northeast sector located 7 kilometers from the eruption center.
People are also advised to remain wary of the potential for rain-induced lava floods in rivers originating from the summit of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki. "Beware of heavy rains, especially in the areas of Dulipali, Padang Pasir, Nobo, Nurabelen, Klatanlo, Hokeng Jaya, Boru, and Nawakote," he said.
Head of the Geological Agency, Muhammad Wafid, previously stated that there has been volcanic and non-harmonic earthquake activity at Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki. "This indicates that magma activity remains strong at shallow depths near the surface (crater)," he said.
Over the past two days, Mount Lewotobi had one eruption tremor, 19 non-harmonic tremors, one low-frequency tremor, one internal volcanic tremor, four local tectonic tremors, and three distant tectonic tremors.
