TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - BPJS Health, the Social Security Organizing Agency, funds a range of contraceptive procedures to support the national Family Planning (KB) program through several approved birth control methods. So, which methods are covered?
1. Depo-Provera Injection (Birth Control Shot)
This hormonal birth control is administered once every three months and is effective at preventing pregnancy.
However, it must be taken regularly, and patients need to stay on schedule to maintain effectiveness. BPJS Health provides a subsidy of Rp20,000 for each injection.
2. Implanon (Implant)
Implanon is a small, rod-shaped contraceptive device inserted beneath the skin of the upper arm. It offers longer protection than the birth control shot, lasting up to three years.
BPJS Health covers both the insertion and removal of the implant, with a total subsidy of Rp105,000.
3. Intrauterine Device (IUD)
The IUD is a spiral-shaped contraceptive device placed in the uterus. It comes in two types: hormonal and non-hormonal.
An IUD can provide protection for up to 10 years. BPJS Health offers a subsidy of Rp105,000 to cover the installation and removal procedures.
4. Tubal Ligation
According to Healthline, tubal ligation (also referred to as tubal sterilization) is a permanent contraceptive method that involves cutting or blocking the fallopian tubes to prevent the meeting of egg and sperm.
BPJS Health covers this permanent procedure with a subsidy of Rp370,000.
5. Vasectomy
As reported by WebMD, vasectomy is a form of permanent male contraception. It works by cutting or blocking the sperm ducts, so that semen is ejaculated without sperm. Similar to tubal ligation, vasectomy is also covered by BPJS Health, with a subsidy of Rp 370,000.
6. Postpartum Consultation and Services
BPJS Health also provides support for postpartum and post-miscarriage family planning services.
These include consultations and the installation of contraceptive devices, helping mothers plan future pregnancies safely and according to their health condition.
In the event of complications, BPJS Health will cover the costs up to Rp125,000.
