TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two airports in the Indonesian region of Yogyakarta, Adisutjipto Airport and Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA), have noted a surge in passengers ahead of the 2026 Eid al-Fitr.
General Manager of Adisutjipto Airport, Wibowo Cahyono Soekadi, said they are expecting a 518 percent surge of passengers at the airport during this year's Eid holiday season. "Encompasses an additional 11,701 people compared to the previous year's Eid travel season," said Wibowo on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
Wibowo added that air movements at the airport are also projected to grow by 213.89 percent, totaling around 226 movements. This projection has risen sharply from the 2025 record of only 72 aircraft movements. "Due to this surge, we have prepared 43 additional flights, consisting of 24 arrival flights and 19 departures," he said.
Based on the Eid holiday transport calendar, the exodus is expected to peak on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Meanwhile, the return flow is expected to reach its peak on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
The airport authorities have set up camp to monitor flights, user mobility, and real-time security services from March 13 to 30.
The command post also serves as an information center for passengers, ranging from flight schedule updates to complaint services and on-site handling assistance.
Meanwhile, Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) has recorded an average of 15,000 passengers per day in the last three days. General Manager of Yogyakarta International Airport, Ruly Artha, said that the traffic realization on Saturday, March 14, 2026 reached 15,644 people across 100 flights.
While on Sunday, March 15, 2026, the number rose again to 16,407 passengers with 102 flights. "Compared to the 2025 holiday post, there was a 26 percent increase in passenger traffic and a 9 percent increase in aircraft movements," said Ruly.
He explained that on Monday, March 16, 2026, it is estimated that there were 15,031 passengers, with 8,961 arrivals and 6,070 departures, indicating that the arrival trend in Yogyakarta still dominates.
