TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s public broadcaster TVRI says it is nearly ready to air the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off on June 11, after completing a series of technical tests and trial broadcasts.
Usman Kansong, Editor-in-Chief of TVRI’s World Cup coverage, said the broadcaster has reached 99.9 percent readiness to deliver the tournament to Indonesian audiences.
Speaking to reporters in Jakarta on Monday, June 8, Usman said TVRI recently conducted simulation broadcasts using international friendly matches to test its systems ahead of the tournament.
“We carried out trial runs through friendly matches. We broadcast two matches on June 7 and one on June 8,” he said.
According to Usman, the test broadcasts were designed to assess TVRI’s preparedness in terms of equipment, technical operations, and human resources. The exercises also allowed the broadcaster to identify areas requiring improvement before the start of the tournament.
While the evaluation process revealed several aspects that still needed refinement, Usman said TVRI is generally ready to air the month-long football spectacle.
He added that no major obstacles have emerged ahead of the tournament, with remaining issues largely technical and already being addressed.
“The most important thing for us is the broadcast itself. It is our responsibility to the public to provide high-quality coverage that is enjoyable to watch,” he said.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the largest edition of the tournament in football history, featuring 104 matches and an expanded field of 48 national teams.
The competition will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026, across 16 host cities in three countries: United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Indonesian viewers will be able to follow the tournament through TVRI’s television broadcasts. Coverage will also be supported by Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) and Antara News Agency, which will provide online reporting and updates across digital and social media platforms.
With just days remaining before kickoff, TVRI says it is focused on ensuring a smooth viewing experience for football fans across Indonesia.
