TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational Region (Daop) 6 Yogyakarta is offering a 30 percent discount on 30 commercial economy class trains during the upcoming school holiday season. Tickets with the discounted fares have been available for booking since June 6, 2026, across all official KAI sales channels, for travel dates spanning from June 20 to July 5, 2026.
Feni Novida Saragih, Public Relations Manager for KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, stated that the program is part of the transportation stimulus backed by the government through the Ministry of Transportation to boost public mobility and stimulate regional economic growth.
"Through this 30 percent fare reduction for commercial economy class trains in the Daop 6 region, KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta stands ready to accommodate the surge in public travel during the school holiday period," Feni said in an interview on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
She added that the initiative aims to provide broader public access to more affordable mass transit. KAI also hopes the policy will breathe life into tourism activities, educational trips, and family visits over the holiday season.
Feni noted that the heightened public mobility during school holidays holds the potential to yield a positive impact on various economic sectors, including hospitality, tourism, culinary ventures, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across various travel destinations.
The 30 percent fare discount applies exclusively to commercial economy class trains and cannot be combined with other promotional reductions or discount programs. However, tickets purchased under this scheme can still be canceled or rescheduled in accordance with current regulations. "This program will remain active as long as the ticket quotas and discounted fares last," Feni added.
A total of 30 commercial economy class trains serving passenger boarding and alighting within the Daop 6 Yogyakarta region are covered by this program. KAI Daop 6 urges travelers to map out their journeys early and keep an eye on ticket availability to secure schedules that best fit their needs.
"We encourage customers to seize this discount by booking early to enjoy safe, comfortable, and timely holiday travel," Feni said.
