TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The exchange rate of the Indonesian rupiah opened weaker on Monday morning, June 8, 2026. In the domestic spot market, the rupiah exchange rate has reached the level of Rp18,129 per US dollar. This position is weaker compared to the closing of trading on Friday, June 5, 2026, which was recorded at the level of Rp18,036 per US dollar.

At the same time, , the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) also opened in the red. At 9:16 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), the JCI plunged 4 percent to 5,370. As of 10:05 a.m. WIB, the JCI remained in the red, down 2.8 percent.

The Director of PT Traze Andalan Futures, Ibrahim Assuaibi, assesses that the weakening of the rupiah is influenced by global sentiment such as the Middle East conflict and the policy direction of the United States central bank, The Fed. Meanwhile, from the domestic side, the increasing need for dollars is predicted to affect Indonesia's current account position.

In addition, Ibrahim highlights the rising inflation in May and the narrowing of the trade balance surplus. Then, there is also sentiment from the downgrade of Danantara Investment Management's debt outlook by the credit rating agency Moody's.

Ibrahim predicts that foreign capital inflow from the stock market today will be quite high due to the weakening of the rupiah. "The weakening of the rupiah amidst investor concerns about the extensive agenda of President Prabowo, especially regarding the free nutritious meal project of the Red and White Village Cooperative, and most importantly the increase in fuel subsidies," said Ibrahim.
