TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The women's volleyball team Red Sparks suffered a crushing defeat against the Pink Spiders in the first leg of the V-League final at Incheon Samsan World Gymnasium, on Monday, March 31, 2025. Red Sparks lost with scores of 21-25, 22-25, 19-25.
Both teams fiercely competed from the beginning of the match until the score reached 16-16. However, after that, the Pink Spiders, who played on their home turf, turned the tables and outperformed Red Sparks, resulting in a 25-21 win for the former team.
Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi and her teammates then tried to press the opponent in the second set, often leading in the tight points battle. Several failures in scoring points slowly caused Red Sparks to fall behind until the score reached 18-18.
Pink Spiders’ Kim Yeon Kyung and her teammates turned the situation around with a score of 21-18. Red Sparks then tried to catch up but only managed to gain four points until the second set ended 25-22 for the Pink Spiders.
The competition became more intense in the third set. Red Sparks, building an attack relying on Megawati and Bukilic, was not powerful enough to break through the tough home defense. Megawati and her teammates' struggle ended as Pink Spiders concluded the third set with 25-19, thus ensuring their first victory in the final of the South Korean Volleyball League.
Red Sparks will have to play five matches in the final round in a best-of-five format. The team that first achieves three victories will be the champion. Red Sparks will be the guest in the first two matches, while Ko Hee Jin's team will return to play in the Pink Spiders' home for the second leg on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
