TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Persero) or PT Pelni transported hundreds of thousands of passengers during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming period 2025. The SOE recorded the five busiest departure ports from March 16 to 30, 2025, ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
The Company Secretary of PT Pelni, Evan Eryanto, stated that the company had transported 304,977 passengers until Eid, March 31, 2025. "The number of homecoming passengers this year has slightly increased from last year, but we are thankful that the homecoming flow has been smooth," said PT Pelni Company Secretary Evan Eryanto in a written statement on Monday, March 31, 2025.
During Eid al-Fitr in 2024, Pelni transported 304,048 people. In the same period this year, the number increased by 929 people, a 0.3 percent rise.
Evan reported that the peak of the PT Pelni return flow occurred on March 26th and 28th. During the peak of Pelni's homecoming, the company transported 26,307 passengers on March 26 and 27,739 passengers on March 28. So, which ports were the busiest departure points during the 2025 Eid homecoming period?
Based on ship voyage data for March 16-30, 2025, Pelni identified the five busiest departure ports. Makassar port occupied the first position with a total of 35,028 departures.
Makassar Port followed Balikpapan Port as the second busiest departure point this Eid. The port in Kalimantan Island recorded 31,781 Pelni ship passengers departing from there. Batam was third with 27,370 passengers, followed by Ambon with 23,036 passengers and Kumai with 19,546 passengers.
Meanwhile, Surabaya became the most popular destination during this year's Eid homecoming period. Surabaya port received 51,859 homecoming travelers during March 16-30, 2025. Surabaya port was followed by Makassar port with 35,011 passengers, Bau-Bau port with 27,387 passengers, Belawan port with 23,195 passengers, and Ambon port with 20,093 passengers.
Additionally, Pelni served the five busiest routes from March 16-30, 2025. The five routes were Batam - Medan with 20,468 passengers, Medan - Batam with 15,024 passengers, Balikpapan - Surabaya with 13,697 passengers, Kumai - Semarang with 11,913 passengers, and Makassar - Surabaya with 9,338 passengers.
