TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto will inaugurate Said Iqbal as Special Advisor to the President on labor affairs on Monday afternoon, June 8, 2026.
Said Iqbal is the president of the Labor Party, which has been registered with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. The plan for his inauguration was announced by State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi.
“Said Iqbal will be asked to assist the President regarding labor and workers’ welfare issues,” he said at the House of Representatives (DPR) complex in Jakarta on Monday, June 8, 2026.
Prasetyo said that labor and workers’ welfare have long been a commitment of the head of state. He also stated that this commitment to improving labor welfare had been made by Prabowo even before he assumed the presidency.
“This commitment has been ongoing for the last ten years to continue working together,” he said.
The Gerindra Party politician added that Said Iqbal’s appointment is expected to help the government address labor issues. According to him, the leader of one of the country’s major labor unions can work with the president to formulate policies and solutions related to workers’ welfare.
In addition to the appointment of a special advisor, President Prabowo Subianto is also scheduled to inaugurate Nanik S. Deyang as the new Head of the National Nutrition Agency. Nanik replaces Dadan Hindayana, who has been named a suspect in a corruption case by the Attorney General’s Office.
In a separate statement, President of the Labor Party Said Iqbal said he will be inaugurated as Special Advisor to the President in the field of labor, based on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 137 of 2024 on Special Presidential Advisors, Special Presidential Envoys, Special Presidential Staff, and Special Vice Presidential Staff.
The position of Special Advisor is equivalent to a ministerial-level post under the regulation.
Iqbal said there were no special preparations for his inauguration. The President of the Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPI) added that everything would proceed naturally, and he would continue to advocate for workers in his new position.
