TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A woman in Nepal survived after remaining trapped for 10 days beneath the rubble of a recent flash flood, the Kathmandu Post reported on Saturday, September 5, citing the Nepal Armed Police Force.
The 64-year-old woman was pulled from the top floor of a debris-buried, four-story building in Betrawati, Nuwakot, a full 10 days after the floods struck, according to the report.
Found unconscious, the survivor was airlifted by helicopter to a Nepalese military base for urgent medical treatment, the newspaper reported.
Flash floods struck northern Nepal on Wednesday morning, August 26, after torrential waters surged into the Bhotekoshi River.
The inundation occurred after a glacier retreat triggered a massive landslide.
The overall death toll from the disaster across the country has now surpassed 1,300.
