TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) continues to operate ferry crossings between Merak Port and Bakauheni on Sunday, September 6, 2026. Operations are proceeding despite the threat of an eruption from Mount Anak Krakatau in Indonesia, which is currently at Level III (Alert status).

Windy Andale, Corporate Secretary of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), stated that the company is closely monitoring developments regarding weather, sea conditions, and the activity of the volcano located in the Sunda Strait. "Any information updates from the relevant authorities are taken into account when determining necessary operational measures," she said in a written statement on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

ASDP urges all ferry passengers traveling along this route to remain calm and follow official information regarding the crossing services. Passengers are expected to heed the directions of personnel on the ground and travel in accordance with applicable regulations.

Should any changes occur, Windy stated that ASDP Indonesia would adjust operations in accordance with recommendations and directives from competent authorities, prioritizing navigational safety. "ASDP will continue to periodically monitor and evaluate the evolving activity of Mount Anak Krakatau," she said.

Mount Anak Krakatau has been erupting since Friday, September 4, 2026. Raden Yogie Nugraha, Head of the Banten Class I Harbormaster and Port Authority Office, stated that vessels are prohibited from approaching within a 3-kilometer radius of the active crater while the alert status remains in effect. All vessels transiting the Sunda Strait are urged to exercise heightened vigilance regarding potential volcanic activity.

Ship captains are required to plan their voyages by taking into account weather conditions and the direction of volcanic ash dispersion, "as well as navigational safety information issued by competent authorities," Yogie said in a written statement today.
