TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - AirNav Indonesia (officially known as Perum LPPNPI) is intensifying its monitoring of the airspace over Jakarta and its surrounding areas to ensure flight safety amidst the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.
"In light of recent developments and for the sake of flight safety, AirNav Indonesia has issued NOTAM A3344/26 regarding the temporary closure of the airspace around Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (WIII) due to volcanic ash from Mount Krakatau, effective until an estimated time of 09:30 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) on Sunday, September 6, 2026," stated Hermana Soegijantoro, EVP of Corporate Secretary at AirNav Indonesia, in a written statement received in Tangerang on Sunday.
He explained that NOTAM A3344/26—which updates the previously issued NOTAM A3341/26 concerning conditions at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport—ensures that airspace users and aviation stakeholders receive the latest information regarding airspace conditions and flight operations.
"Meanwhile, operations at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (WIHH) have returned to normal. Based on NOTAM A3342/26, runway 06/24 (RWY 06/24) resumed normal operations effective at 02:28 WIB on September 6, 2026," he said.
He noted that air navigation services are managed dynamically based on actual conditions in each region; when dealing with potential volcanic ash hazards, the spread of the ash and airspace conditions are critical factors continuously monitored during the provision of these services.
"Through the Indonesia Network Management Center (INMC), AirNav Indonesia is intensifying its monitoring of airspace conditions and the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau," he explained. He stated that continuous monitoring is being conducted to support air traffic management and ensure that flight safety information remains available and updated in line with evolving conditions.
"Information regarding airspace conditions and flight operations is disseminated through aeronautical information service mechanisms, including the issuance and updating of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) as conditions change," he said.
In this regard, AirNav continues to intensify its monitoring of airspace conditions and update flight information based on the latest developments. Adjustments to air navigation services are being made while prioritizing safety.
AirNav Indonesia also maintains ongoing coordination with relevant stakeholders to ensure that updates on airspace conditions and flight safety information are communicated in a timely manner.
"This coordination is part of the effort to maintain the continuity of air navigation services while taking into account actual conditions in the airspace," he added.
AirNav Indonesia noted that aeronautical information—including NOTAMs—is dynamic and subject to updates as conditions evolve. Therefore, all airspace users and aviation stakeholders must consistently heed the latest aeronautical information when planning and conducting flights.
"AirNav Indonesia will continue to intensify monitoring of airspace conditions related to the activity of Mount Anak Krakatau and update flight information in line with developments, with flight safety remaining the top priority," he stated.
