TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Indonesian Muslim Students' Action Union (KAMMI) rejects the planned protest by the United Pati People’s Alliance (AMPB) at the Parliament (DPR/MPR) Building on August 27, 2026, to maintain public order and the integrity of national unity.

"We are expressing this rejection to maintain public order, the sovereignty of state symbols, and the integrity of national unity, which are non-negotiable," said the General Chair of the KAMMI Central Executive Board, Muhammad Amri Akbar, on Friday, as quoted by ANTARA.

Previously, AMPB representatives had threatened to take members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) hostage if their demands to pass the Asset Forfeiture Bill and the death penalty for corruptors continued to be ignored.

Amri said that KAMMI rejects all maneuvers claiming to represent the people's aspirations that could lead to provocation, coercive actions, and threats against state symbols and public officials.

"Statements that suggest an intention to take hostages or threaten DPR RI members constitute an escalation that cannot be justified in a civilized democracy," he said.

According to Amri, every citizen has the right to criticize and express their aspirations, but these rights should not be exploited by confrontational narratives that could incite unrest, damage state facilities, and tear apart the sense of unity this nation has painstakingly cultivated.

Furthermore, as a group of change, students have a moral responsibility to elegantly bridge the aspirations of the people with state administrators, rather than muddying the waters with confrontational narratives.

KAMMI, Amri continued, encourages all elements of civil society to channel demands including the eradication of corruption, the Asset Forfeiture Bill, and just law enforcement through official forums, legislative hearings, and available public participation mechanisms.

"This is a manifestation of democratic maturity. Let us oversee the anti-corruption agenda through constitutional, peaceful, and dignified means, so that the people's voices are heard without sacrificing the integrity and sovereignty of the nation," he said.
