TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Deputy Head of the Halal Product Guarantee Organizing Agency (BPJPH), Afriansyah Noor, affirmed that the agency has imposed strict sanctions on producers of halal-certified snacks that were found to contain pork. He stated that these sanctions are in accordance with existing regulations.

"The sanctions include the withdrawal of the products from circulation and the revocation of their halal certificates," he said when contacted on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

These sanctions were implemented after BPJPH summoned all producers involved in manufacturing the pork-containing snacks. Afriansyah noted that the summonses were conducted by the Deputy for Supervision at BPJPH.

"All were summoned and all attended. I cannot recall the exact dates of the summonses," he stated.

He explained that the discovery of pork in halal-certified snacks was a result of routine surveillance. According to him, the circulation of these products was not due to improper acquisition of halal certificates but rather a failure by businesses to maintain the required halal product guarantee system.

"Business operators did not uphold the halal product guarantee system," he clarified.

Prior to this, BPJPH in collaboration with the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) announced on March 21 the discovery of pork in several snacks marketed as halal. Nine children's snack products were identified to contain pork.

The Head of BPOM, Taruna Ikrar, stated that the detection of porcine (pork) content in the nine marshmallow products resulted from BPOM's routine food safety surveillance, which includes monitoring compliance with halal labeling. Laboratory testing for DNA and specific porcine peptide parameters confirmed the presence of pork.

Ikrar mentioned that BPOM subsequently coordinated with BPJPH regarding these findings, in accordance with Cooperation Agreement Number 10 of 2024 (BPJPH) and Number KS.01.01.2.06.24.05 (BPOM) concerning the Supervision of Halal Product Guarantees in the Field of Drugs and Food.

Following this, BPJPH conducted an in-depth investigation, expanded sample collection and testing, and followed up with the implicated business operators. It was found that seven of the nine products already possessed halal certificates. Ikrar explained that, according to regulations, BPJPH oversees the issuance of warnings and the withdrawal of these products from circulation.

Regarding the other two products, they did not possess halal certificates and also failed to indicate the presence of pork or any information about processed foods that had come into contact with or used facilities shared with pork-derived ingredients.

"However, test results revealed the presence of pork DNA in these products," Ikrar stated. "These products should have been labeled as containing pork, as they did not match the data provided during registration and did not comply with processed food labeling regulations."

The list of snacks containing pork as announced by BPOM and BPJPH is as follows:

1. Corniche Fluffy Jelly Marshmallow (Various Flavors: Lychee, Orange, Strawberry, Grapes)

2. Corniche Apple Teddy Marshmallow

3. ChompChomp Car Mallow (Car-shaped Marshmallow)

4. ChompChomp Flower Mallow (Flower-shaped Marshmallow)

5. ChompChomp Mini Marshmallow (Tube-shaped)

6. Hakiki Gelatin (Food Additive for Gel Formation)

7. Larbee - TYL Marshmallow Filled with Vanilla Jam

8. AAA Orange Marshmallow

9. SWEETME Chocolate Marshmallow.
