TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Arne Slot invites the audience to pay tribute to Jurgen Klopp after leading Liverpool to win the English Premier League 2024/2025. He mentions that the success of The Reds this season is inseparable from the role of his predecessor.
Liverpool secured the title after demolishing Tottenham with a score of 5-1 at Anfield on Sunday, April 27, 2025. With four games remaining, their points lead cannot be caught by the closest contenders, Arsenal.
After the match, in the middle of the field, Slot invites the audience to sing the 1984 Opus band song, Live Is Life. He replaces the lyrics 'Arne Slot' with 'Jurgen Klopp'.
It's like a responsive poem. Klopp has sung Slot's name with that song in his last match at Anfield.
Following the victory over Tottenham, Slot praised Klopp, who successfully won the Champions League and the Premier League among other trophies during his nine-year tenure at Anfield. He mentions that his predecessor has laid a solid foundation to be developed further. "I think that is something that has never been done by a manager before. So that's what really helped me," said Slot as quoted on the Premier League website.
Its main legacy is the culture within the team. "But beyond all that, he helped me more through the team he left behind and the culture he left in that team," Slot said again.
He considered Klopp had injected added value to the players' quality. "The quality that the players possess, in my opinion, is clearly seen by everyone. However, the culture of hard work, the culture that is not only possessed by the players, but also by the staff members, is extraordinary," Slot said again.
The Dutch coach mentioned that all of these contributed to Liverpool's success this season. "And that is one of the reasons why we were able to achieve what we have this season," he said.
Slot described the Premier League victory, which lifted Liverpool to match Manchester United's record of 20 top-flight titles, as "surreal."
He remained calm all day except when the team bus arrived at Anfield and was greeted by thousands of fans. "The only moment that made me emotional today was when we arrived at the stadium, to see what it means to the fans, what it means to these people," he said.
He referred to the fans as fuel that added energy to his team. "Then during the game, after the game, it's truly amazing how the fans supported us and how our players played. And it's really special to be a part of today," Slot said.
