TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, stated that the Indonesian government does not want to make political comments regarding the armed conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. The Indonesian government does not want to comment on something related to the political decisions of other countries.
"As much as possible, we try to avoid expressing opinions related to the politics or events in other countries, those political policies," said Prasetyo to the media at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Friday, July 25, 2025.
Nevertheless, the spokesperson for President Prabowo Subianto hopes that the conflict between the two countries in Southeast Asia does not escalate. The escalation of the conflict will have a global impact, including on Indonesia.
The Gerindra politician also ensured that Indonesian citizens in Thailand and Cambodia are in a safe condition. He said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is continuing to monitor Indonesian citizens and prepare mitigation measures to protect them.
These mitigation measures include opening communication channels. "Thus, the Indonesian government can immediately detect the situation of Indonesian citizens and quickly take action," he said.
Last Thursday, a battle broke out around the Ta Moan Thom Temple in the Surin Province, Thailand, just a few hundred meters from the border with Cambodia. This area has been a point of tension for a long time, and the situation has heated up again since last May after a Cambodian soldier was killed in an armed incident.
To date, it is still unclear who fired the first shots. Both sides are blaming each other, and diplomatic efforts are currently stalled. Thailand has also closed all border points with Cambodia. Based on the latest data, this conflict has killed at least 14 people and injured 46 others.
The Indonesian Embassies in Phnom Penh and Bangkok have urged all Indonesian citizens to avoid or limit travel to conflict-affected areas in Cambodia and Thailand.
Indonesian citizens are advised to be vigilant, stay calm, avoid panicking, and avoid traveling to the border between Thailand and Cambodia.
