
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, warned of the global impact that the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia poses, including on Indonesia. The war, he said, could affect other nations if it continues to escalate. Prasetyo stated, "The escalation of the conflict will have a global impact, including on Indonesia," to the media at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Friday, July 25, 2025.
President Prabowo Subianto's spokesperson said that the Indonesian government refrained from making political comments on the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.
"We try to refrain from expressing opinions on other countries' politics or happenings, as well as their political policies," he said.
Indonesian Citizens Safe
Nevertheless, the Gerindra Party politician assured that Indonesian citizens in Thailand and Cambodia are safe, with the Foreign Ministry continuing to monitor the situation.
The government also prepares mitigation measures to rescue the citizens living in both countries, one of which is by establishing communication channels. Thus, the Indonesian government can quickly detect the situation revolving around the Indonesian citizens and promptly take action.
Clashes broke out between the Thai and Cambodian militaries near the Prasat Ta Moan Thom Temple in Surin Province, Thailand, yesterday, at the disputed border area. The long-standing conflict heated up last May when a Cambodian soldier was killed in a skirmish with the Thai forces.
It is unclear who initiated the first fire, as both sides accuse each other, and diplomatic efforts have stalled thus far. Thailand has also closed all border points with Cambodia. According to the latest data, the conflict has killed at least 16 people on both sides and injured 46 others.
The Indonesian embassies in Phnom Penh and Bangkok have advised all Indonesian citizens to avoid or limit travel to conflict-stricken areas in Cambodia and Thailand.
Indonesian citizens are also urged to up vigilance, remain calm, avoid panic, and refrain from traveling to the border areas between Thailand and Cambodia.
