TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iranian Ambassador for Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, shared updates about the conditions at the Strait of Hormuz, which he said remains peculiar. This situation persists despite the Iran-US two-week ceasefire agreed on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

Boroujerdi said the area remains highly sensitive, influenced by the recent conflict. "Regarding the condition in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, they remain out of the ordinary. As we know, the area is sensitive during wartime and must go through several protocols," said Boroujerdi when met at Paramadina University, Cipayung, East Jakarta, on Saturday, April 11, 2026.

Protocols and Negotiation as Requirements

Boroujerdi explained that every ship seeking to pass through the Strait of Hormuz must adhere to the protocols set by the local security authorities. He said these procedures are part of the measures to secure a high-strategic-value region.

Pertamina previously reported that two of its tanker ships, namely the Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro, were still stranded in the Persian Gulf.

The Pertamina Pride is managed by NYK, while the Gamsunoro is managed by Synergy Ship Management. Both have been stuck since Iran closed the strategic route at the end of February.

Boroujerdi added that in addition to following the protocols, commercial ships must also go through a negotiation process with the related parties. This mechanism involves the Iranian security guards as the authorities in the region.

But the Iranian Ambassador he did not specify the details of the protocols necessary to follow, including by Pertamina, to allow both tankers a safe passage.

Indonesia Cites Ongoing Technical Issues

On the other hand, Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said there are still technical issues preventing the two tanker ships owned by PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) from passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Indonesian government is working closely with the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran and the Iranian government and the Iranian Embassy in Jakarta.

Ministry spokesperson Vahd Nabyl Achmad Mulachela mentioned that several technical aspects are still under discussion to ensure navigational safety. "Including insurance and crew readiness," said Nabyl in a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

These obstacles, he said, are not merely political. "These are indeed technical matters that need to be discussed involving Pertamina and other relevant parties on the ground there," he said.
