TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The US State Department announced on Monday, August 10, 2026, that it has revoked more than 175,000 visas since January 2025, when US President Donald Trump began his second term.
"The majority of these visas were revoked due to legal violations involving various criminal activities, with assault, driving under the influence, theft, and drug-related offenses being the primary causes," the department said in a statement as reported by Xinhua and cited by Antara.
In the statement, the US State Department noted that many visas were revoked due to reckless driving, sexual violence, child abuse, fraud and embezzlement, and other crimes.
"A US visa is a privilege, not a right. The State Department remains committed to using every tool available to protect our public from those who abuse it," the statement said.
Since Trump returned to the White House, his administration has tightened immigration policies, cracked down on illegal immigrants, and increased scrutiny of US visa holders.
