TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The death toll from the powerful earthquake in Colombia has reached 132, with another 570 people injured, as reported by Caracol television, citing the latest government data, and cited by Antara.
Previously, Colombian authorities had reported 111 deaths and 87 injuries.
Preliminary information indicates that the earthquake damaged 1,575 residential buildings, 61 of which were completely destroyed. Damaged infrastructure includes 18 health facilities, 52 educational institutions, 18 roads, and seven airports.
According to Caracol, the situation is most severe in Pereira and other parts of the Coffee Axis region, as well as in the Valle del Cauca and Chocó districts.
Casualty figures continue to be updated as rescue operations proceed.
A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Colombia on Monday morning. The epicenter was located near San José del Palmar in the Chocó district. Tremors were felt across most of Colombia, as well as in neighboring Venezuela, Ecuador, and Panama.
Colombian authorities have declared a national disaster and deployed rescue units to the hardest-hit areas. Search and rescue teams have been dispatched from Bogotá, Envigado, Yopal, and Medellín.
