TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - US President Donald Trump said he would choose silence if Iran suspends indirect peace talks with Washington.
"I think we've been talking too much, if you want to know the truth. I think going silent would be very good," Trump told NBC News as cited by Anadolu on Monday, June 1, 2026.
Trump clarified that a pause in negotiations would not necessarily mean a resumption of direct attacks, but he asserted that the US blockade of Iranian ports would remain in place.
The US, he said, would let Iran wait "as long as they want" because Tehran is being hurt so much by the blockade.
Trump's statement followed a report from Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency that Tehran had suspended mediated peace talks in protest of Israel's attacks on Lebanon.
