Scorching Hot Weather Grips Indonesia: BMKG Reports Temperatures Hit 37 Degrees Celsius

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Scorching hot weather has affected various regions throughout Indonesia over the past week. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded the highest daily maximum temperature during this period at 37 degrees Celsius. This was observed in Tanah Merah, South Papua, on April 21st.

The intense heat in Tanah Merah persisted into the subsequent days. Although there was a brief respite, the daily maximum temperature in that region reached 35.8 degrees Celsius on April 24 and 25, remaining among the highest recorded across Indonesia.

Numerous other locations throughout Indonesia also endured temperatures exceeding 34 degrees Celsius. The Juanda Meteorological Station in Sidoarjo, East Java, reported a daily maximum temperature of 34.8 degrees Celsius on April 22 and 23.

The Regional Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency II in South Tangerang recorded a high of 35.4 degrees Celsius in Banten on April 25 and 26, 2025. Additionally, Aceh experienced significant heat, reaching 34.3 degrees Celsius on April 26 and 27.

Continued Hot Weather

BMKG data from the past two days, April 27-28, 2025, indicate that maximum temperatures in numerous Indonesian regions continue to surpass 30 degrees Celsius, marked by red indicators on their monitoring systems. This widespread heat has also become a trending topic on social media, with netizens expressing discomfort over the unusually sweltering conditions.

In Riau, the Japura Meteorological Station in Indragiri Hulu Regency recorded a temperature of 34.2 degrees Celsius. Both Sumbawa in West Nusa Tenggara and Semarang in Central Java reached 34 degrees Celsius from yesterday through today, Monday, April 28, 2025.

Other regions experiencing elevated temperatures include Bandar Lampung and Jambi, both registering 33.8 degrees Celsius. Even the 20th region on the list still recorded a significant temperature of 32.5 degrees Celsius in East Java.
