TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Rupiah exchange rate weakened by 40 points in this afternoon's trading on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. The rupiah is now parked at Rp16,826 against the US dollar from the previous close of Rp16,786.
"In this afternoon's trading, the rupiah closed weaker by 40 points after it had strengthened by 15 points," said Currency Analyst Ibrahim Assuaibi in a written statement on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
Ibrahim mentioned that the rupiah is expected to fluctuate in next Monday's trading in the range of Rp16,810 - Rp16,870.
Bank Indonesia (BI) reported that Indonesia's foreign exchange reserves position at the end of March 2025 amounted to 157.1 billion US dollars. This figure indicates an increase compared to the position at the end of February 2025, which was 154.5 billion US dollars.
According to BI, the increase in foreign exchange reserves is tax and service revenues as well as the withdrawal of the government's foreign loans. This increase occurred amidst Bank Indonesia's efforts to stabilize the exchange value of the rupiah in response to the still-high uncertainty of the global financial market.
"The foreign exchange reserves position at the end of March 2025 is considered very adequate," said Ibrahim. According to him, this amount is equivalent to financing 6.7 months of imports or 6.5 months of imports plus the payment of the government's foreign debt, which is above the international adequacy standard of around 3 months of imports.
Bank Indonesia also believes these reserves can support external sector resilience and maintain national macroeconomic and financial stability.
