TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received the Grand-croix de la Lgion d'honneur, the highest honor from France, at Sapta Marga Field, Akmil Magelang (Magelang Military Academy), on Thursday, May 28, 2025. French President Emmanuel Macron directly awarded the honor to Prabowo.
The moment of awarding the honor took place during Macron's welcoming ceremony at Akmil Magelang on Thursday, May 28, 2025.
As seen on the YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat, both entered the field at around 12:00 AM. Prabowo and Macron walked together on a blue carpet towards the main stage of the field.
Prabowo wore a gray suit and a white shirt with a light blue tie, while Macron wore a blue suit and tie with a white shirt inside the suit.
Their arrival was greeted by an armed battalion wearing predominantly light blue and white uniforms, lined up at the Sapta Marga Field, Akmil Magelang. In the middle of the field, the Indonesian and French flags were raised side by side.
The military leader then instructed the soldiers to pay their respects to both of them. During the salute, the national anthems of both countries, Indonesia Raya and La Marseillaise, were played.
The welcoming ceremony began, and Prabowo and Macron then boarded a dark green Maung 4x4 tactical vehicle. The vehicle, made by PT Pindad, then carried the two heads of state to inspect the troops by circling the field.
In the next session, the announcer stated that France would award its highest honor to Prabowo.
"The award of honor from the French Government is the highest honor of Grand-croix de la Lgion d'honneur," said the announcer.
Macron then awarded the honor to Prabowo. "Thank you," said Prabowo to Macron.
Prabowo and Macron are scheduled to visit Akmil Magelang and Borobudur Temple on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
According to the official statement from the Presidential Secretariat's Bureau of Press, Media, and Information, after the agenda at Akmil, President Prabowo and President Macron are scheduled to continue their journey to Borobudur Temple. Macron's visit to Indonesia is expected to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Indonesia and France that has been established in various sectors.
Previously, President Prabowo received President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
In the meeting, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that he would advocate for the independence of the Palestinian state at the upcoming high-level conference for the two-state solution in New York, United States, in June 2025.
In the conference, Macron said that France and Saudi Arabia would provide new momentum for the recognition of the Palestinian state, including recognition of Israel for peaceful coexistence in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, President Prabowo Subianto stated that he would acknowledge Israel if they recognize Palestine as a sovereign state. Prabowo also stated that the Indonesian government is ready to ensure the security of Israel after recognizing Palestine as an independent state.
