TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto hopes his visit to the United Nations General Assembly can result in a ceasefire in Gaza, Palestine.
"We immediately need a ceasefire for the people of Gaza and a substantive solution. So, I think, Alhamdulillah, my visit has been beneficial," said Prabowo upon arrival at the Indonesian Air Force Base Halim Perdanakusumah, Jakarta, on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Prabowo said his speech at the UN received positive responses from many leaders of member countries. He hopes that his speech will lead to a breakthrough in the conflict in Palestine.
"I see goodwill from many parties," he said.
In his speech, Prabowo reiterated Indonesia's full support for a two-state solution to resolve the conflict in Gaza. He believes true peace will only be achieved if the rights of Palestine and the security of Israel are recognized and guaranteed by the international community.
"We must have an independent Palestine, we must also recognize, we must respect, and we must guarantee the safety and security of Israel," said Prabowo in his speech at the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, the United States, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, as quoted in the official statement.
On that occasion, Prabowo highlighted the worsening humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and urged the world not to turn away from the tragedy. He stressed that millions of people are now facing trauma, hunger, and the threat of death in the eyes of the international community.
"Right now, innocent people are crying for help, crying to be saved. Who will save them? Millions of people are facing danger as we sit here," said Prabowo.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking on the first turn of the last day of the 80th UN General Assembly's General Debate, noted the passionate words delivered by the President of Indonesia, just as everyone else surely did.
"I took note of the encouraging words spoken here by the president of Indonesia. This is the country with the largest Muslim population of all nations. It's also a sign of what could come," said Netanyahu.
Netanyahu claimed that forward-thinking Arab and Muslim leaders know that working with Israel will give them access to cutting-edge technologies from Israel, including in the fields of medicine, science, agriculture, water, defense, artificial intelligence, and many other fields.
"In the coming years, the Middle East will look very different. Those fighting Israel today will disappear. Brave peacemakers will take their place," he said.
