TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Analyst Nafan Aji of Mirae Asset Sekuritas Indonesia advised investors to effectively implement risk management principles in response to the condition of the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG), which has plummeted. "Because we are facing significant market turbulence," Nafan said when contacted by Tempo on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
Amid the unstable IHSG condition, Nafan said investors need to look at the fundamental performance of issuers. According to him, issuers who implement good management will be more sustainable in facing various challenges.
Meanwhile, Budi Frensidy, a Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Indonesia, suggested that investors should be selective in their stock purchases if they have cash to spare. According to Budi, the weakening of the IHSG is caused by the United States' tariff policy and the extended holiday during Eid.
"If corrections occurred in other exchanges last week, our exchange accumulated the corrections yesterday," Budi said via WhatsApp on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. He also mentioned that the weakening of the IHSG will only be temporary as long as the figure remains below 6,000.
The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) again temporarily halted trading after the IHSG plummeted by more than 8 percent. The trading system suspension for 30 minutes was conducted on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 09:00:00 Jakarta Automated Trading System (JATS) time.
"This action was taken due to a decrease in the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG), which reached 8 percent," said BEI Corporate Secretary Kautsar Primadi Nurahmad in a written statement on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
At the opening of trading on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 09:00 AM WIB (Western Indonesia Time), the IHSG collapsed by 596.33 points or 9.16 percent to 5,914.28. Meanwhile, 45 leading stocks or the LQ45 Index plummeted by 92.61 points or 11.25 percent to 651.9.
Not even a month ago, BEI had also taken the action of halting the trading system on Monday, March 18, 2025, at 11:19:31 JATS time. The suspension of stock trading was triggered by a decrease in the IHSG of more than 5 percent.
