TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of residents impacted by mass food poisoning in Karangturi Village, Gantiwarno District, Klaten Regency, Central Java, on Thursday, April 17, 2025, has reached 160 people. As many as 44 people are being treated at the public health facilities, or Puskesmas, and hospitals.
The Head of Puskesmas Gantiwarno, Andi Markoco, revealed the information after data collection or “sweeping” conducted by the puskesmas team.
"For example, some patients fell ill but did not report it,” he told reporters today. “We will update the data for patients who remain in treatment or those who have been allowed to go home later."
Andi disclosed that the condition of residents affected by mass food poisoning is gradually improving, including for those undergoing outpatient treatment.
The Gantiwarno District Head, Veronica Retno Setyaningsih, stated that on the fourth day after the mass poisoning incident experienced by residents in Karangturi Village, the service post for handling affected residents in the Bendungan Hamlet area has been closed as the situation is considered to have eased. However, medical treatment for these residents continues to be provided at the village hall.
"Thankfully there have been no new cases, but we are still providing services. Those who were treated before but have not yet recovered will still be served at the village hall; the health workers are ready. For those in need of special care, they will be treated at the 24-hour open Puskesmas," Retno said.
She stated that affected residents who still experience discomfort can contact officers or healthcare workers to receive further treatment. For example, if the medicine has run out but there has been no improvement in condition, or there may be new cases.
"In cases of poisoning, the human body's resistance varies. Some recover immediately, and some do not. For those who have not yet recovered, please report it," she said.
She ensured that there is a special team at Puskesmas Gantiwarno to handle the mass poisoning in Karangturi Village. Regarding the cause of the incident, Retno said authorities are awaiting the laboratory test results on the food samples taken a few days ago.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, the Social Service Agency of Central Java Province sent social assistance for the affected residents.
The mass food poisoning incident occurred to residents of Karangturi Village after attending a shadow puppet show at a post-Eid gathering in Bendungan hamlet, on Saturday night. One resident died in the incident.
