TEMPO.CO, JakartaSaudi Arabia advances to the 2025 U-17 Asian Cup final after triumphing over South Korea in a penalty shootout today, Thursday, April 17, at the Okadh Sport Club Stadium, Taif.

South Korea, leading through Oh Ha-Ram's goal at the end of the first half, managed to maintain their lead until the final minutes. It seemed that the Taeguk Warriors would win the match with a 1-0 advantage before the equalizing goal in the 90+12 minute.

Saudi Arabia was awarded a penalty in the final minutes of the second half after goalkeeper Park Do-Hun committed a foul while trying to stop Abdulaziz Al Fawaz's movement inside the box.

Abubaker Abdelrahman Saeed, the one who took the penalty, did his task well. His powerful shot from the penalty spot was unstoppable to South Korea’s goalkeeper Park Do-Hun, resulting in a 1-1 draw, thereby calling for a penalty shootout.

In the penalty shootout, Kim Ji-Sung, the first kicker for South Korea, successfully scored a goal. However, three other players, Kim Min-Chan, Jeong Hyeong-Ung, and Kim Do-Yeon, failed.

One of their failures in the penalty shootout occurred when goalkeeper Abdurahman AL Otaibi managed to block Jeong Hyeong-Ung's kick.

On the other hand, the first two kickers for Saudi Arabia, Abdulaziz Al Fawaz and Sabri Dahal, succeeded, whereas the third player, Abdulrahman Sufyani, failed. The fourth kicker, Thari Saeed, became the victory determinant after his ball evaded Park Do-Hun.

Saudi Arabia’s success in advancing to this year’s U-17 Asian Cup final paves may for the hope of a victorious Green Falcon by the end of the tournament. This would be their third time winning the cup after 1985 and 1988. The home team will face the winner between Uzbekistan and North Korea, who will compete in the semifinals on Friday morning, April 18, 2025.
