TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Presidential Palace has denied rumors that alcoholic drinks were served to President Prabowo Subianto during a toast with French President Emmanuel Macron at a gala dinner on Wednesday, May 28.
"We would like to inform you that he drank apple juice. The Palace did not provide any alcoholic beverages," said Yusuf Permana, Deputy of Protocol, Press, and Media at the Presidential Secretariat, in an official statement on Friday, May 30, 2025.
Prabowo hosted a gala dinner to welcome Macron at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. During the dinner, both leaders were seen toasting with glasses containing a golden-colored liquid. This moment sparked discussion on social media, with netizens claiming the drink was alcoholic or champagne.
In his speech at the dinner, Prabowo expressed his honor in welcoming Macron and his wife, Brigitte, to Indonesia, highlighting the long-standing and strengthening relationship between France and Indonesia.
"Until today, we have witnessed together that the relationship between our two countries has been advancing in almost all fields," Prabowo remarked.
Prabowo also extended his gratitude for Macron's invitation to attend the Bastille Day celebration on July 14, 2025, thanking him on behalf of Indonesia and personally.
"I invite all the attendees to raise our glasses, to drink to the health of His Excellency the President of the French Republic and the First Lady, and to the well-being of both our nations, the French and Indonesian nations. Viva la France, Viva la Indonesia. Thank you very much," Prabowo said while raising his glass and drinking from it.
President Macron made a state visit to Indonesia for three days, from May 27-29, 2025.
