TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Japan continues to captivate travelers from around the globe, cementing its place as one of the world’s most sought-after destinations.
Between January and July 2025, the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) recorded 24.9 million international visitors, a striking 18.4 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Among them were 373,600 Indonesian travelers, placing Indonesia in the 11th spot as a key source of visitors.
The trend is also reflected in the private sector: Dwidayatour reported a 24 percent jump in demand for travel packages to Japan over the past year.
“We’re seeing strong enthusiasm for Japan as a holiday destination, with the growth continuing steadily,” said Yohannes Heraldo, a Dwidayatour representative, in a statement to Tempo on September 25, 2025.

For many, Japan’s draw begins with its legendary efficiency. The Shinkansen, or bullet train, remains a marvel of modern engineering, whisking passengers across 500 kilometers in just four hours. Visitors can also rely on Japan’s extensive MRT, metro subway, and bus networks, making even first-time travelers feel at ease navigating the country.

The large-scale travel exhibition was designed to showcase the best of Japanese tourism, offering visitors a taste of Japanese culture and travel deals too tempting to pass up.
According to Yohannes, the festival featured exclusive offers such as up to Rp4 million in discounts and Rp6 million cashback on holiday packages. Flight tickets to Tokyo started at Rp5.1 million, while tour packages, including attractions like Tokyo Disneyland, were available from Rp16.1 million per person.
For many Indonesians, Japan is no longer just a dream destination but an increasingly accessible reality, whether drawn by its technological wonders, cultural richness, or culinary treasures. And if the numbers are any indication, this fascination with the Land of the Rising Sun is only set to grow.
