Nicolas Cage's Spider-Noir Arrives This Week with One Major Limitation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spider-Noir is premiering this week, much to the long-awaited excitement of fans. However, there’s a twist to the release, which may require a bit of understanding.

Despite Prime Video serving as the streaming home of Spider-Noir, subscribers to MGM+ linear will get access two days ahead on Monday, May 25. This includes TV providers YouTube TV, Fubo, Philo, Sling TV, and DIRECTV. Viewers will be able to binge all eight episodes starting at 2:30 p.m. ET, though access is limited to MGM+ linear and not the MGM+ streaming.

Meanwhile, Prime Video subscribers will have to wait to catch all eight episodes back-to-back until Wednesday, May 27. Interestingly, viewers are treated to two viewing formats for Spider-Noir, True-Hue Full Color and Authentic Black and White. The latter is a homage to the film noir genre of the 1940s and 1950s, according to Forbes. It also marks Marvel’s first attempt at presenting a series in dual visual formats.

Spider-Noir stars Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly, a private investigator in New York City who gave up his superhuman alter ego long before the cameras started rolling. But that changes when the city’s criminal ecosystem forces him to step back into his spider persona. 

This project reunites Nicolas Cage with filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, following his voice role as Spider-Man Noir in the duo’s 2018 Oscar-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
