Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Spain of waging a 'diplomatic war' against Israel. Netanyahu has decided to withdraw the country's representative from the coordination center overseeing the ceasefire in Gaza.
In a video statement uploaded on platform X on Friday, April 20, 2026, Netanyahu affirmed that Israel will not remain silent towards actions deemed detrimental to the country. "Israel would not remain silent in the face of those who attack us," he said, as reported by Al Jazeera on April 10, 2026.
He also accused Spain of tarnishing Israel's military reputation. He claimed that Spain had tarnished the reputation of Israel's heroes, the IDF soldiers, the soldiers from the most moral army in the world. "Therefore, I have instructed today to remove Spain’s representatives from the coordination centre in Kiryat Gat, after Spain has chosen repeatedly to stand against Israel," said Netanyahu.
Furthermore, Netanyahu warned that his country will not tolerate such diplomatic pressure. 'I will not allow any country to wage diplomatic war against us without directly paying the price,' he said, as reported by Xinhua.
He also referred to the Spanish government as having made 'blood libels' against Israel and its military.
This decision is related to the Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) located in Kiryat Gat, southern Israel. The facility, led by the United States, was established in October 2025 as part of a ceasefire agreement to coordinate stabilization and humanitarian aid delivery to the Gaza Strip.
The CMCC is also part of a plan supported by US President Donald Trump to end the conflict in Gaza, involving military and diplomatic personnel from various countries.
However, relations between Israel and Spain have been deteriorating in recent times. Tensions have escalated since Madrid openly criticized Israel's military operations, recognized Palestine as a state in 2024, and voiced opposition to the treatment of Palestinian residents in the occupied territory.
The Snchez government also opposed US and Israeli military operations against Iran starting on February 28 and closed its airspace to US aircraft involved in the conflict.
In addition, Sanchez recently condemned Israel's attack on Lebanon.
"Netanyahu has launched the harshest attack against Lebanon since the beginning of the offensive," he wrote in X.
He added that the action reflected 'unacceptable disregard for human lives and international law.'
Amid claims of a "ceasefire," the situation on the ground remains tense. Israel is reported to continue launching almost daily attacks on Gaza, while restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid remain in place.
